Conversations with the Tooth Fairy: Is she real?

The tooth fairy walked onto our family’s radar when my daughter lost her first tooth.

I went through several ridiculous stages of shock.  She was six years old and based on my own thoughts, a little too young to be experiencing tooth loss.  Even though my thoughts of it being too early were not medically sound, I felt like my baby was growing up.  Her growth is a little too fast for me to catch each step.

She was entering a world of new chunky adult teeth, who knows what doors that could lead to. On her journey, she wrote a letter to the tooth fairy.  Deer Toot Fary, can u giv me a Barbi.

To my husband’s dismay, our tooth fairy delivered the Barbie under her bed.  He is a staunch believer, that anything other than coins is an unacceptable and overindulgent gift.  He also believes only the first tooth is worthy of a gift. In the realm of mom, Barbie was completely acceptable, especially for a first tooth.

When she woke up she stated with complete awe and incomplete acceptance, “I guess the tooth fairy is real!?”  It was not until tooth number two that she came right out and asked, “Mommy is the tooth fairy real?”  In my duty as a parent, I have vowed to never lie to my child.  I told her yes, she is real, and I know her very well, every house has its own tooth fairy.  She then looked at me with a wry smile and said: “Well mommy can you ask her for $20.00?”

Congrats! I love that youre doing this.

I liked it, but you ended too abruptly. You should have continued with some more anecdotes and maybe threw in some psychology. That would have left me feeling a bit more resolution.
