Quick and Easy Matcha Smoothie Recipe

Families have a lot to juggle.  Smoothies are a great on the go pre or post-workout treat.  This tasty, quick, and easy Matcha smoothie packs a double punch.  This matcha smoothie recipe deliciously partners antioxidant powerhouse Matcha powder with shelled hemp seeds.

What is Matcha powder? How much caffeine is in Matcha powder?

Matcha powder is a concentrated form of green tea.  Most teas contain caffeine and because Matcha powder is concentrated it contains more caffeine than the general black or green tea.  A serving of gluten-free, vegan Matcha is 1 tsp and contains roughly 35 mg of caffeine.   Slightly less than half the amount of caffeine in a cup of black coffee.

All of the items in this recipe except the Coconut Milk were purchased at Costco.  Matcha powder is expensive but Costco’s price is reasonable. Costco has a propensity to change products, hopefully, Matcha powder will remain.

What are the benefits of hemp seeds?

Gluten-free Hemp seeds are a source of protein, iron and healthy omegas.  Hemp seeds come from the hemp plant.  Marijuana also comes from the hemp plant but not the same one.  Hemp seeds do contain trace amounts of THC. Trace amounts should not cause you to fail or drug test or get you high.  If you are taking a multitude of THC containing products this could be different. Hemp seeds blend well, therefore, they are an excellent addition to the Matcha smoothie.

Be adventurous when trying smoothie recipes! The ingredients are simple and the quantity is easily doubled. It uses three tools a Vitamix, one tablespoon, and one cup measurement.  A blender can substitute for the Vitamix.

 

Matcha Smoothie recipe

Makes one, 24-32 oz serving or four, 8 oz servings

Matcha Smoothie

Easily doubled or tripled

1 cup of coconut milk (Silk)

1 cup of frozen or fresh pineapple

Ripe medium banana (1)

4- 5 cups of baby spinach

1 tbsp of Matcha powder

3 tbsp of shelled Hemp Seeds

1 cup of ice

Instructions:

Add all ingredients to your Vitamix in the order listed. Begin processing the ingredients on slow and gradually move to high until all ingredients are blended.  If using a different blender place Matcha smoothie ingredients in the blender as per the manufacturer’s recommendations.  Enjoy this delicious Matcha smoothie recipe!!
